Salton Sea

The Salton Sea is a saline, endorheic rift lake located directly on the San Andreas Fault in California’s Border Region. The lake occupies the lowest elevations of the Salton Sink in the Colorado Desert of Imperial and Riverside Counties in Southern California. Currently, its surface is 226 ft (69 m) below sea level, with the deepest area of the sea set at 5 ft (1.5 m). The lake covers about 376 sq mi, making it the largest in California.
Located on the northeastern side of the Salton Sea, it is about a three hour drive from the Los Angeles area and 30 miles south of Indio on Highway 111. The park is located between Highway 10 on the North, and Highway 8 on the South.
